Iran Reiterates Support for Syria because Damascus Has the Right

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Syria and Iran stressed common keenness on developing the bilateral relations, particularly the economic ones, and upgrading them to the level of the special political relationship binding both countries.

Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi met on Wednesday the Iranian President's Assistant Mir Hossein Mousavi on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Foreign Ministers meeting in Tehran and discussed with him the solid cooperation relations between their countries and peoples.

"We appreciate Iran's support to Syria's stances in the face of the pressures and international conspiracy currently facing it due to its principled national stances," al-Halqi said.

He stressed that the Syrian people have made their decision in moving ahead with eliminating terrorism and its backers, stemming their strength in doing so from the Syrians' rallying around the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, their national unity and the support of Syria's fiends, particularly Iran.

Premier al-Halqi hailed Iran's efforts and its initiative for solving the crisis in Syria through dialogue and peaceful means.

He affirmed that the national interest demands halting violence providing that the terrorism-backing countries and parties that are conspiring against Syria halt their support to the armed terrorist groups.

"We won't allow foreign interference in our internal affairs under any pretext or name," the Prime Minister stressed.

For his part, the Iranian President's Assistant Mousavi reiterated his country's support to Syria's stances because it has the right and is defending its people's interests and national sovereignty, expressing confidence in the failure of the conspiracy and in the victory of the Syrian people over terrorism and the economic sanctions.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem, Secretary General of the Government's Presidency, Tayseer al-Zoubi and Syria's Ambassador in Tehran, Hamed Hassan.

Al-Moallem: Situation on the Ground in Syria Is Going for the Better

Later, Minister al-Moallem met with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, who reaffirmed Tehran's stances in full support for Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, "the symbol of the homeland and guarantor of its national unity."

Salehi stressed that the security of Syria is Iran's security, reiterating that Iran will spare no effort in helping Syria overcome its current crisis.

For his part, Minister al-Moallem thanked Iran for its efforts in holding and organizing the NAM summit, welcoming any Iranian effort that contributes to resolving the crisis in Syria as being a Syrian effort.

He assured that the situation on the ground in Syria is going for the better, stressing that the conspirators against Syria who have breached the international conventions are responsible for the shedding of the Syrian blood, on top of those being Turkey.

Ayatollah Khamenei: Condition to solving the Crisis in Syria Is Halting Weapons Supplies to Terrorist Groups

Supreme Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, stressed during a meeting with UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on the sidelines of the NAM summit that Iran sees that the natural condition to solve the crisis in Syria is to halt sending weapons to the armed terrorist groups in the country.

Khamenei affirmed that the prevailing situation in Syria is caused by the outflow of weapons sent to the terrorist groups from across most of Syria's borders.

He said that the governments of the countries sending arms to the terrorist groups in Syria are the ones responsible for hindering the implementation of the plan of the former UN envoy to Syria, Kofi Annan.

The UN Secretary General, for his part, highlighted Iran's very important and influential position in the region, stressing the importance of Tehran's role in finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.

Indian Prime Minister: Only Solution to Crisis Is the Syrian Internal Solution

In another context and during his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Khamenei stressed the harmony in the stances shared by Iran and India regarding the issues in the region, including the situation in Syria.

Manhoman reaffirmed that his country rejects any foreign intervention in the Syrian affair and considers the only solution to the crisis in Syria is the Syrian internal solution that is based on what the Syrian people see suitable.
